Aboriginal Women's Breast Health "Train the Trainer" Project
De dwa da dehs nye>s Aboriginal Health Centre, in cooperation with members of Hamilton Women's Health Networking group, is pleased to offer a culturally specific Breast Health "Train the Trainer" course for frontline workers, social service providers, health care workers, and caregivers who work with Aboriginal women.
The two-day course will provide in-depth knowledge and training about Aboriginal women's health issues, traditional health perspectives, breast health, breast cancer, mammography & breast screening, support services and healthy lifestyle choices. The course will provide skill development in the areas of group facilitation, recruitment, and workshop planning.
Program participants will recieve an Aboriginal specific "Breast Health Workshop Manual," and "Breast Resource Kit" complete with teaching tools for providing workshops in the community. Each kit includes: instructional videotapes, discussion guides, printed resource materials, educational tools, and promotional items.
This program is available to a maximum of 30 participants. A grant from the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation-Ontario Chapter has made it possible for this program to be available at no cost.
