Health Promotion & Education

Description

The Health Promotion and Education Program is dedicated to helping our clients and community members become active participants in their own health and wellness. We provide on-going diabetes education circles, healthy lifestyle workshops, nutrition programs, wellness fairs and special events, presentations, consulting services, as well as a wide selection of health education resource materials.

Program Goal

To encourage healthy living choices which promote good health and reduce the risk of illness.
To design, develop, and deliver holistic programs and services that support positive changes in lifestyle such as...

* increasing physical activity * healthy eating * smoke free living
* stress reducation * self-care management

Program Activities
  • HEALTHY LIFESTYLE SCHOOL FAIRS: We are pleased to coordinate Healthy Lifestyle Fairs at local elementary schools as a means of creating awareness about type II diabetes. By helping our youth learn the importance of healthy eating and regular physical activity, we can prevent this disease from affecting future generations.
  • PRESENTATIONS: Group presentations on Aboriginal health issues, initiatives, or Aboriginal-specific health related topics can be provided upon request.
  • HEALTH INFORMATION: Our resource centre offers a wide variety of pamphlets, booklets, manuals and videotapes for you to choose from. While many of our resource materials are offered free-of-charge, some materials, like videotapes and books, are available to clients on loan. Information packages on specific health topics are also available upon request.
