DE DWA DA DEHS NYE>S
Aboriginal Health Centre
Our Mission: To improve the wellness of Aboriginal individuals and of the Aboriginal community by providing services which respect people as individuals with a distinctive cultural identity and distinctive values and beliefs.
The challenge is never-ending as we work hard to develop and deliver a variety of health services for Aboriginal people at our De dwa da dehs nye>s Aboriginal Health Centre. Our programs have been geared to the following areas: primary care which includes traditional healing as well as physician and nurse practitioner services; advocacy services; outreach services; health promotion and education. We continually think about theses services in the context with the aboriginal community that we serve, we realize that the low health status of our aboriginal clients continues to be a major barrier for the healing and wellness, however our organizations resolve to improve the wellness of Aboriginal people grows stronger each day.
Our objective of ensuring that the healthcare system in the Hamilton and Brantford communities will
be able to meet the health needs of Aboriginal people is a critical task for our organization. Our partnership with the Government of Ontario through the Aboriginal Healing & Wellness Strategy has been very beneficial in the designing of a Health Centre specifically to meet the needs of Aboriginal people.
Our services focus on wholistic healing. We offer our Aboriginal clients a choice of culturally appropriate western medicine and/or traditional healing. Our Health Centre serves the urban and rural Aboriginal populations off-reserve, while complementing and augmenting existing services offered by both mainstream and Native organizations. Our programs and services have been developed to improve the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health of the Aboriginal people in our catchment area.
