Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic services have
been offered to clients of De dwa da dehs nye>s over the last five (5)
months. The Naturopathic philosophy
parallels the traditional belief that healing must be wholistic and includes the
spiritual, emotional and physical dimensions of an individual. Naturopaths offer a range of services
designed to promote the body’s own ability to heal; these treatments include
botanical medicine, acupuncture, homeopathy, clinical nutrition, massage and
hydrotherapy. Patients are assessed
Wednesdays between 12:30 pm to 5:00 pm.
You can self refer by calling (905) 544-4320 and requesting an

“AHNEE”
A
Healthy Native Eating Education Program
The Ahnee program has just
completed its 10 week Healthy Native Eating Education program. The group has lost over 200 pounds,
if you followed the program you could lose up to 20 pounds or more. The best part of the program is “You
never need to go hungry!”
The program emphasized the
traditional Native diet of decades even centuries ago which consisted of lean
meat, fish, birds, corn, wild rice, vegetables and berries. The diet of today usually consists of fatty
dairy products, sugar, white flour, coffee, tea, pork, beef or alcohol.
The program began February
28, 2000 and finished on May 8, 2000.
The most recent challenge
for the Ahneers (program participants) was to keep with the program over the
Easter holiday, and the person who lost the most weight during that time won a
shiny, new loonie for every pound lost.
Also, the other challenge was whoever lost the most weight from the
beginning, would win a Super Ahnee Prize!
CONGRATS to the
winners - Sandra Sandy for the Easter challenge and to Leslie Isaacs for the
most weight lost!!
The group learned a lot of
good nutrition tips, cooking tips, body flex exercises and most importantly,
the knowledge to eat healthy.
This program was excellent, the centre may plan to run it again in the fall, keep your eyes and ears open or call and leave your name, address and phone number if interested; we’ll notify you when we run the Ahnee again.
